Synopsis

Jack is racing to finish his film for the Higgsfield Global Film Festival when his younger brother Leo, frustrated after being ignored, secretly begins altering the prompts. What starts as harmless mischief throws the generated world — and its protagonist Ethan — into increasingly unpredictable chaos. When Leo is accidentally pulled inside the generation itself, Jack must use the same prompt system that caused the problem to find a way to bring him back.

OUT OF PROMPT turns the process of AI filmmaking into part of the story itself: prompts, generations, continuity failures, and unexpected outputs become dramatic events rather than invisible production tools.

Director’s Statement

OUT OF PROMPT began with a simple question: what happens when an AI filmmaker loses control of his own film? The project was designed around the idea that AI generation would not sit behind the story as a production method, but become part of the story’s internal logic.

Beneath the technology and chaos, the film is ultimately about two brothers: one completely absorbed in finishing his work, and another who simply wants his attention. The objective was to combine humor, suspense, emotional stakes, and cinematic visual storytelling while treating AI generation as a directorial medium rather than a novelty.

Visual & Narrative Approach

The film is built around two connected realities: Jack’s grounded physical world and Ethan’s AI-generated world. Jack’s environment is intimate, warm, and naturalistic, while the generated world becomes increasingly unstable as prompts are altered. As the story progresses, the visual boundary between creator and creation gradually collapses.

Its visual language relies on motivated lighting, realistic environments, physical camera behavior, shallow depth of field, controlled handheld movement, natural skin texture, and consistent character design.

Production & AI Workflow

OUT OF PROMPT is an independently created AI-native short film developed and post-produced by a single filmmaker. Story development, visual direction, character development, prompt engineering, shot design, generation strategy, editing, sound direction, compositing, subtitles, color finishing, and final assembly were handled by Hayder Khalid.

Higgsfield and Seedance supported shot-by-shot visual generation and the AI-generated events inside the narrative. DaVinci Resolve was used for editing, timing, sound assembly, subtitles, color finishing, scaling, quality control, and final delivery. Adobe Photoshop was used selectively for visual cleanup, compositing support, reference consistency, and preparation of visual elements where required.

AI Audio Production

All background music in OUT OF PROMPT was generated with Suno AI. Dialogue, character voices, environmental audio, and sound effects were generated natively within the video generations using Seedance 2.5 on Higgsfield, then edited, layered, timed, balanced, and finalized in DaVinci Resolve.

Festival Context

Official submission — Higgsfield Global Film Festival 2026. The film was created as an entry for the festival and incorporates the act of creating a festival submission into the story itself. Results pending.

AI / Production Disclosure

OUT OF PROMPT is an AI-native film. AI tools were used to generate the visual performances, environments, dialogue, voices, sound effects, and music sources used in the final film. Creative direction, story development, prompt design, shot selection, editing, visual refinement, sound assembly, timing, color finishing, and final mastering were performed by Hayder Khalid. No human-recorded dialogue, licensed music, stock sound library material, or separately sourced sound effects were used in the final film.
